Facebook’s Instagram has announced in-app purchasing, creating a new revenue stream for the platform. Online shopping is all about breaking down hurdles and staying in app through a clean and progressive checkout process is simply gold. My main excitement over this announcement is seeing how this feature progresses to things beyond just traditional e-commerce product like shirts, shoes, watches and more. I’d love to see how things like freelancer services, gift cards, event tickets or fundraising will play a part in the future of this new feature.
Dare I say it, but Amazon better watch out. This would never critically hurt Amazon’s profit limitless numbers, but we’re in an age where curated content with peer reviews mean everything and people will be buying a lot of product on this platform.
